Achieving Something in My Life

If You Have the Chance, Pick Up Octopath's Wayfarer's Edition

Okay so I made this preorder knowing absolutely nothing of this game and I have to say, I was actually really surprised when I started playing the demo and how engaging it actually was and how each character was actually really interesting to play through. It made justifying the $100 price actually worth it when it came out. Just letting you all know, Tressa is my favorite character because she is tiny and adorable and a badass.

My main reason for ordering this thing was because of the popup book that comes with it and while it is interesting, each page actually portrays a key scene that happens in that character's story. Eight pages for the eight playable characters and this was actually a really cool idea to show off where this game got its roots from. It really does give off that feel of Final Fantasy games before VII. But that being said, there is somethings about the book that I didn't really like. For starters, I thought it was going to be an actual separate book where the game and everything else came in a different container but with this, the book was actually also the box that held everything else. Which is fine but it made a bit hard to look at the popups sometimes. You kind of have to set up like a stage where you have to lift side and the other side is perpendicular to the table. But that was my only downside.

I'm going to skip over the sound selection CD as it's really only something that contains music of the game and I can turn on the game for that. But the Wayfarer's Edition also comes with a collectible coin of the game's currency and I got to say, I thought this would be a tiny thing but this thing has some actual weight to it. It's something that I would probably use for a magic trick at some point while using the cloth map that came with this as well. Which by the way is double sided to show off some awesome artwork of the game's characters in what appears to be a tavern or an inn.

The last part didn't really come with the game but was a preorder bonus for Gamestop and I got to say, the stickers aren't really that special but the character cards. So much detail was poured into these and they're not just cardboard pieces with the design slapped on them. They're actually textured to make the environments the characters are in pop more.

For $100 I got to say, Square-Enix went all out with this edition. The amount of extra stuff you get with the game actually makes the thing worth all of it. And because the game is actually a lot more engaging for me, this was a much better choice that Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.
